STOP- PRESS - Unfortunately the licence was turned down - we can appeal - should we?
Last Year - a comment.... we are missing out on brilliant music people because of the objectors ...SIR - As manager of the Bradford-based rock band New Model Army, I am very disappointed that the event planned for later this year has been cancelled due to the actions of a small minority of objectors who clearly have little knowledge of festivals but a great deal of knowledge about the working of council and magistrate appeal systems. By sticking to the letter of the law, these persons have succeeding in delaying the granting of a licence for this new festival until the point in the year where it would be impossible for the organisers to pull the event together in time. The event organisers, having the full support of the council, police and local community, had put together a very comprehensive application and one that would surely have been granted. New Model Army have proudly and firmly maintained their roots in Yorkshire, and with their 10th studio album set for release in late August, the festival was a great opportunity to promote not only themselves but the region in general. It has been estimated that the event could have been worth as much as £2.5 million to the local community not to mention the future benefits of an established and well run festival. These have now been lost for at least another year by the simple but well established practice of nimbyism. The festival had committed to a very environmentally friendly event and it was predicted that the site would be in better condition when the event was over than it was before it began. So for the sake of a few days slight inconvenience to a very small number of people, the area has lost the opportunity to unite its community, promote its beauty and highlight the wealth and variety of artistic talent that exists in the region. The organisers have my full support for the rescheduled event in 2008. Tommy Tee Triple T Management. |
