Unfortunately our application has been turned down but - YOU CAN HELP - READ ON ..... Settle Festival Limited Edition Gold Sponsor Application Background. Mark Dale and the organisers of Settle Festival have been working hard for over 12 months to enable a music event to happen in the Settle area. This community driven event, has met and overcome a whole range of obstacles along the way. This is thanks to the hard work and commitment of many local people which has helped keep costs down by providing assistance free of charge. Some professional help has been paid for so far and now the crucial time has come to involve a greater degree of professional help. Hopefully, this will get us over the one final hurdle to ensure an event takes place at the end of August 2008 and all the hard work and effort put in so far will not be wasted. Why we need your help. Applying for a license for an event on this scale has been daunting and complicated. On Friday 22 February after months of hard work and effort the licensing committee rejected our detailed application. Obviously, we were disappointed but the rejection owes more to the fact that the committee could not consider additional work carried out since December 2007. Nor could it consider things we promised to do, or could pay professional people to do on our behalf. We confidently believe that by recruiting more professional help now we can satisfy the licensing objectives, either on appeal, or in a new application. The event will then be proven to be safe, and cause a minimum of disruption. The police have promised to work with us on this. The professional help we need will not be cheap and this is where we need your help. £100 per Gold Sponsor Voucher. We have decided to raise the money needed for professional help by seeking sponsorship. These will be limited to a maximum of 250 Vouchers available from Friday 29 Feb on a first come, first served basis. They will be valid for exchange for 2 VIP tickets to a Settle Festival Event. To obtain one or more of these special vouchers please read the information on the reverse and fill in the form. We would love you to be one of the VIPs at our very own Settle Festival Event. Dear All Settle Festival Supporters, Just a quick newsletter - to let you know that we have just submitted our licence application for Settle Festival 2008, and would like your support and help. We have also updated the website, www.settlefestival.co.uk with a new look, and the opportunity for it to be more interactive. Please register and sign in with the site for full content, and news. This is on-going work, so please be patient... or send us ideas for the site, and what you want to see on it, or send us some content !!! As I’m sure you know, Settle Festival aims to be a regional event bringing a significant music and arts offer to the area, with proceeds being distributed back to the community, via community groups, charities, and a community grant scheme. Unfortunately, there are a small minority of people against this event, which means that the way the licensing works, they could potentially prevent it happening. We know we have huge support in the community, but want to be sure. Hence our request for your letters. We are sure that there will be a minority element of objectors again to the festival, so would appreciate any support, by way of an email, or a letter - by 18th January 2008

Dear Licensing, I understand that Settle Festival are currently applying for their licence for 2008. I fully support this application, and feel that the event will bring some much needed vitality and interest into the area; I believe the management team will do a good job, and are working in full co-operation with the authorities to ensure that this community event is delivered safely and well for the benefit of all, in line with licensing objectives. This area needs well run initiatives such as this. Kind Regards "Mr Supporter" also, should you want to write to the local press, For your information… Letters can be sent to…

Please network out this newsletter and message to all potential supporters, via your friends, work colleagues, myspace, facebook, email, etc, etc.
Friend us on myspace here www.myspace.com/settlefestival Facebook Groups here www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5431259954 and www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2252131474 If you want to get involved… We have regular meetings, most Tuesdays upstairs in Settle Town Hall at 7pm if anyone wants to get involved… (just contact us before you come along, so that we can confirm there is a meeting that week (resume 2nd week in January 2008)) We have support from many local groups and organisations and aim to work with young people of all ages to help them gain experience and to help nurture their artistic talent. Indeed, the Government appointed Local Regional Development Agency, Yorkshire Forwards has already granted us a bursary award to help develop the festival. We aim to bring bands and artists of all genres in an eclectic mix to the Area, which will appeal to ages from children, through teens and youth, to students, adults, families and the oldies! There are opportunities for businesses, community groups, charities and individuals to get involved to further their causes, and we have links with Business Link and Craven College’s Business Training Division, Tyro Training to assist this. During the build-up to the Festival, we will be widely advertising the event, which will increase the public awareness of the area, and thus increase the tourism potential - a trade we as a region are so dependant upon, across the board. Already, we are working closely with Leeds Met University, (The Worlds best Event Management Dept – possibly!) and have some of their past and current students working with us, to gain real hands-on industry experience. May I take this opportunity to wish you all Good Tidings for the remaining Christmas Period and a Great New Year. Should you have the chance to help in any way, elderly, home alone or infirm people, or any children in need, this Festive period, please do, as it can be a time of loneliness and sadness for some… just a quick call in and greeting may be all that is needed, and is so easy for us to do… Please remember to write in your letters of support… 5 minutes of your time WILL help to make a difference...!
