Settle Community Festival/ Settle Cycling Festival

Plans are gathering speed for the Settle Festival weeks with a number of exciting events planned to appeal to all ages in this family orientated festival. Please contact as below if you or your business want to get involved.
 
Sunday 14th September
 
Chris Maudsley, one of the Festival volunteers kicks off local cycling activities, when he does a Charity Triathlon, Swimming Malham Tarn, then a 30km Mountain Bike ride and a 30km 3 Peaks Run. He is also organising the Trail Quest /Geo Cache/ Treasure Hunt for Settle Cycling Festival.

Friday 19th September
 
The famous Settle Flags go up, and local businesses and individual households are encouraged to join in the spirit of the week by displaying flags of their own.
 
Saturday 20th
 
A Master Class by Settle Flagmakers in Settle Parish Church between 10-4pm. This is very much a chance for people to come along and see how it’s done and to have a go themselves at the techniques involved. There will be refreshments available all day and also entertainment by Settle Voices.
 
There will also be the chance to enjoy a taster of a Doll’s House exhibition planned for 25th October.
 
Guided walks by Friends of Settle-Carlisle in aid of Air Ambulance www.settle-carlisle.co.uk

 In the evening there are two entertainments on offer in town. At Victoria Theatre the Friends of Victoria Hall are pleased to welcome once more the ensemble group, Miscellany for an evening of songs and comic entertainment. The performance starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £7.50 from the box office 01729 825718. Concessions cost £6.50 and children £3. Meanwhile in Settle Social Club the Three Peaks Folk Club, led by resident folk duo Keeper’s Fold will meet for a singaround session. This will commence at 8.30pm and is an evening of free entertainment with everyone invited to join in and sing.

Monday 22nd
 
For those who enjoy singing but have always felt too daunted to try because they don’t read music there is the perfect opportunity to find their voice, when a free singing workshop will take place at Friends Meeting House. Open to all this will run from 1-3pm and be led by a professional leader.

 Tuesday 23rd

 “Take Three Chefs…” an exciting cookery demonstration featuring local chefs will take place at Victoria Theatre.  Stephanie Moon (Rudding Park), Craig Molloy (The Coniston Hotel) and Richard Wallbank (Ravenous) will all be demonstrating their favourite dishes using locally sourced  ingredients.  The evening will commence at 7.30pm and tickets cost £5, available from Victoria Theatre Box Office on 01729 825718.

Wednesday 24th

  The John Godber modern classic play, “Bouncers” will be staged at Victoria Theatre by Reform Theatre This will commence at 8pm and is an extremely well observed story of 80’s urban night life! Tickets cost £8 and £6. Further details and tickets are available from the box office on 01729 825718.

 Friday 26th

Saturday 27th
 Bring Your Bike and Party Mood !!!  Settle is having a Market Square full of fun !!  FANCY DRESS DAY !!!!   - if you’re stuck ..costume hire in Age Concern, on the Market Square !! Spot prizes  and Grand Prize.  Cycling and Arts and Music events in and around the Market Place, from 10am  until 10pm  Cycling events are aimed at Family ability, although some can be geared more to advanced level.

Businesses, Traders and Community groups will be displaying around the Market Place, and a Green Settle Area will demonstrate what sustainability things are happening around the district www.greensettle.org.uk

 Cave Rescue www.cro.org.uk will be displaying, with a climbing wall in partnership with Leeds Met University Carnegie Faculty of Sport and Education www.leedsmet.ac.uk/carnegie

 Local Emergency Services will also be doing displays.

On the Main Stage, and a secondary entertainment space by Gazart www.gazart.co.uk – In aid of Oxfam; there will be a full day of programmed entertainment from local and regional artistes, and community groups. Some space still available – please enquire.

Sunday 28th

 Events in the market place – as above 10am – 10pm Musical and Artistic acts all day.

3 Peaks Cycle Race www.3peakscyclocross.org.uk It is the toughest and biggest Cyclo-Cross event in the UK

Grass Roots  at  The Quaker Meeting House, Settle (meeting room at rear) 2pm—6pm

Transition Towns; Permaculture; Hydrogen Cars; Useful websites;  Green things you can do in Settle!  There will also be a special Churches Together Service at St John’s Church at 6.30pm.
